Have you completed your Lean Green Belt and are you ready for the next step? During this training, you will upgrade your Green Belt to a Lean Black Belt. After completing the programme, you will be able to guide the Lean transformation within your organisation, focusing on both the people side and process improvement.
This upgrade is designed specifically for anyone who has already completed a Lean Green Belt. In most cases, it does not matter whether you obtained your Lean Green Belt with us or with another training provider. If you completed it elsewhere, we will carry out a brief intake assessment to ensure that your knowledge level aligns with our curriculum.
Preparing for your role as a Lean Black Belt
During this programme, you will further expand your Lean knowledge and skills while preparing for the strategic aspects of the Black Belt role. As a Lean Black Belt, you will guide the Lean transformation within your organisation. In addition to deepening your Lean expertise and mastering advanced Lean tools, we devote considerable attention to the behavioural side of organisational transformation.
Results of the Green Belt to Black Belt Upgrade
After successfully completing this programme, you will have:
- The knowledge and skills required to successfully perform the role of Lean Black Belt.
- An understanding of both the process and behavioural aspects of a Lean programme, together with a toolbox of possible interventions.
- The knowledge and skills to support your organisation’s leadership as a strategic advisor throughout the transformation.
- An understanding of individual differences and how to recognise, appreciate and leverage them.
What you will learn during the Green Belt to Black Belt Upgrade
If you have gained practical experience as a Lean Green Belt, you have already experienced the difference between a Green Belt and a Black Belt. A Lean Black Belt has a more strategic role in the Lean transformation and supports both the Green Belts and the organisation throughout this journey. Black Belts also lead improvement projects themselves, often spanning multiple departments and delivering substantial improvement potential (typically exceeding €100,000).
During this programme, we provide you with the knowledge and skills required to work as a strategic advisor within your organisation. We expand your Lean expertise while developing the skills needed to guide both organisations and people through change. Topics covered include Systems Thinking, Policy Deployment, the Belbin Team Roles Model, (Advanced) Value Stream Mapping and Lean Accounting.
Experienced trainers with real-world expertise
Once you start applying Lean in the workplace, you will quickly discover that reality is often more challenging than theory. We only consider ourselves successful when you are able to contribute to sustainable performance improvement and organisational change as a Lean Black Belt. That is why our programmes are delivered by trainers with extensive hands-on experience. In many cases, our trainers still spend several days each week leading improvement projects for our clients.
This enables your trainer to genuinely support you in achieving performance improvements by providing practical tools and coaching you in developing the necessary skills. Read more about our trainers and get to know them here.

Completion of a Lean Green Belt programme is required for this training. Have you not yet completed a Lean Green Belt programme, but would you still like to become a Lean Black Belt? Then choose the combined Green + Black Belt in Lean programme. The Lean Green Belt modules are fully integrated into this Lean Black Belt programme.
Programme overview
Throughout this programme, your personal development plan takes centre stage. On the very first day, you will begin working on it. For every topic covered, we ask you to identify what you can improve yourself, what your manager could improve, and what improvements would benefit your organisation. Using these three perspectives, you will apply the knowledge you gain directly to your own work environment. Naturally, guidance is available if desired, and there is ample opportunity during the training to exchange ideas, discuss challenges and share experiences with fellow participants.
- Systems Thinking: the differences between Scientific Management and Systems Thinking, and redesigning the system.
- Reflection in Action.
- Belbin Team Roles & the 14 MMO Management Principles.
- Policy Deployment: designing, implementing and sustaining a Lean programme within an organisation.
- Value Stream Mapping in a service environment: applying Lean in service and administrative processes and understanding the differences compared to a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced Value Stream Mapping: managing multiple products and services within a single value stream.

Certification: nationally recognised, internationally accredited
Enrolling in a training programme is an investment in your current role and your future career. With UPD’s Lean Black Belt certificate, you can be confident that your qualification will be recognised. All of our Lean programmes are accredited with an LCS Practical Accreditation at LCS Level 2A. This international accreditation ensures that your Lean qualification is recognised worldwide.
Lean Black Belt certification
A Lean Black Belt programme consists of two parts: Green Belt in Lean and Upgrade Green to Black Belt in Lean. To become certified as a Lean Black Belt, you must successfully complete both components. For each part, we offer both theoretical and practical certification. The fee for the practical certification of the Upgrade Green to Black Belt in Lean is €825 excluding VAT. If you wish to take part, simply indicate this during your registration. If you do not yet hold a Green Belt Practical Certificate, the fee for this certification is €495 excluding VAT.

Coaching
Experience has shown that the chances of successfully completing the practical certification increase significantly when participants receive coaching while carrying out their practical assignment. During the coaching sessions, your coach will help you define, execute and complete your practical assignments in accordance with the applicable certification guidelines. This not only improves your chances of certification but generally also increases the impact of your improvement initiative.
Coaching is available in packages of 4 hours. The fee for 4 hours of coaching is €800 excluding VAT. As a guideline, we generally recommend 8 hours of coaching per improvement initiative.
Price of this training
The training costs € 4.895,- excl. VAT per participant, including:

Would you like some time to think it over or discuss it with your employer first? If so, reserve a place in the training to avoid disappointment if it becomes fully booked. This reservation is free of charge and comes with no obligation.
Request a no-obligation quotation
Do you need a quotation to obtain approval? Or would you simply like to review all the details at your own pace? Request a no-obligation quotation. You’ll receive it by email within one business day, and there is absolutely no obligation.
Get the maximum return from your training
During the training days, we will help you get started with your own practical improvement project. However, we strongly recommend that you continue to receive guidance or coaching while completing this project after the training. This helps prevent unexpected issues during the final assessment of your practical assignment and increases your chances of successfully obtaining your Practical Certificate. We therefore recommend checking within your own organisation whether experienced Belts are available to guide you.
To complete your Black Belt Practical Certification, you must successfully finish two practical assignments. If you already completed a practical assignment during your Green Belt training, this will often count towards your Black Belt certification as well. In that case, you only need to complete one additional practical assignment during the Black Belt upgrade. Your practical coach can assess whether your Green Belt assignment qualifies.
Coaching by UPD
Don’t know any experienced Belts, or do you want to get the very most out of your training? Then choose workplace coaching from a UPD (Master) Black Belt. Participants who select this option significantly increase their chances of successfully completing the practical assignment. We offer coaching in blocks of 4, 8, or 12 hours. As a guideline, we recommend 12 hours of coaching per practical assignment. Experience has shown that most participants require this amount of support to successfully complete their Practical Certification. The fee for 12 hours of coaching is €2,400. If you need to complete two practical assignments, you can use 24 hours of coaching as a guideline. The fee for 24 hours is €4,800.
Convince your employer
